Due to advancing age, our elderly loved ones are more at risk for oral health problems. Some of these are gum disease, tooth loss, dry mouth, or darkened teeth. As a provider of personal care home of Stone Mountain Georgia, we recommend the following tips to help our seniors properly maintain their good dental health:
- Brush teeth.
When brushing the teeth, make sure to use fluoride-containing toothpaste. Brush teeth at least twice a day to keep the cavities from building up.
Another important step is to floss at least once a day to remove the plaque or food from between the teeth.
- Gargle with mouthwash.
After flossing, rinse by gargling an antiseptic mouthwash for about 30 seconds. We recommend doing this once or twice a day.
- Visit your dentist.
Finally, be sure to visit the dentist on a regular schedule for cleaning and oral examination. As part of our medication assistance in Georgia, we also provide on-site visiting dentists to help keep our residents’ teeth and gums healthy.
